Henry Cavendish discovered hydrogen here and the Cavendish Laboratory, which bears his name, specializing in physics. Sir John Cokcroft split the atom and Charles Darwin articulated his theory of natural selection here.
Some companies that have located here include Sinclair Research and Acorn computers. Sinclair Research is one of the most famous companies and was led by Sir Clive Sinclair, who deliverd market team for the first mass ZX81 UK market. Acorn Computers was in competition with Sinclair and divided into several branches, a call that ARM Holdings now has a dominant position in chips for phones and PDAs. Aveva initiated the field of computer-aided design (CAD) and was formed in 1967 as CADCentre.
